Liverpool thrash Everton 4-1 in Merseyside derby

Salah scores his 13th Premier League goal of the season

Mohamed Salah scored his 13th Premier League goal of the season as Liverpool thrashed Everton 4-1 in the Merseyside derby at Goodison Park on Sunday. The Egyptian forward opened the scoring in the third minute with a clinical finish from Trent Alexander-Arnold's cross. Sadio Mane doubled Liverpool's lead in the 19th minute with a close-range header from Andy Robertson's corner. Jordan Henderson made it 3-0 in the 49th minute with a deflected shot from outside the area. And Diogo Jota completed the scoring in the 79th minute with a header from Salah's cross.

The win moves Liverpool up to second in the Premier League table, two points behind leaders Manchester City. Everton remain in sixth place, six points behind fourth-placed Arsenal.

Reaction

"It was a great performance from us," said Liverpool manager Jurgen Klopp. "We were clinical in front of goal and we defended very well. I'm really pleased with the result." "We're disappointed with the result," said Everton manager Carlo Ancelotti. "We didn't start well and we made too many mistakes. Liverpool were the better team and they deserved to win."

Liverpool will now turn their attention to the Champions League, where they will face Real Madrid in the quarter-finals. Everton will travel to Burnley in the Premier League next Saturday.
