The Road to the Kentucky Derby presented by Woodford Reserve is a series of races that awards points to the Top 5 finishers in each race. The top 18 point earners will earn a spot in the starting gate for the Kentucky Derby. The final prep races for the Kentucky Derby were held on Saturday, April 29.
The results of the final prep races shook up the Kentucky Derby points standings. Epicenter, who had been the points leader for much of the year, finished seventh in the Wood Memorial Stakes and dropped to third in the standings. Crown Pride, who won the Blue Grass Stakes, moved up to first in the standings. Rich Strike, who won the Kentucky Derby in 2022, finished second in the Wood Memorial Stakes and moved up to second in the standings.
The Kentucky Derby will be held on Saturday, May 6, at Churchill Downs in Louisville, Kentucky.
