Former Bayern Munich coach Hansi Flick appointed as Germany manager

Flick takes over from Joachim Low after 15 years in charge

Flick led Bayern to a sextuple in 2020

Hansi Flick has been appointed as the new manager of the Germany national team, the German Football Association (DFB) has announced. Flick takes over from Joachim Low, who stepped down after 15 years in charge following Germany's disappointing performance at the 2022 World Cup.

Flick, 57, has signed a contract until 2024 and will take charge of his first game against Liechtenstein in a friendly on March 26. He will then lead Germany in their Euro 2024 qualifying campaign, which begins in March 2023.

Flick has a wealth of experience in coaching, having led Bayern Munich to a sextuple in 2020, including the Champions League, Bundesliga and DFB-Pokal. He also won the Bundesliga title in 2021 and the FIFA Club World Cup in 2020.

Flick's appointment has been welcomed by DFB president Bernd Neuendorf, who said: "We are very pleased to have Hansi Flick as the new national coach. He is a highly experienced and successful coach who has proven his qualities at the highest level.

Flick said he was "proud and happy" to be appointed as Germany manager. "I am very much looking forward to working with the team and to continuing the successful work of Jogi Low," he said.
