Leverkusen Extends Unbeaten Streak After Last-Minute Draw
Dortmund Loses Grip on Top Spot
Bayer Leverkusen and Dortmund played out a thrilling 1-1 draw in a top-of-the-table clash in the 13th round of the Bundesliga. The hosts took an early lead through Josip Stanisic, but Dortmund equalized in the 79th minute through Victor Boniface. The result sees Leverkusen maintain their unbeaten run in the league this season, while Dortmund drops two points behind Bayern Munich at the top of the table.
Dortmund started the game brightly and took the lead in just the seventh minute. Jude Bellingham found Josip Stanisic in space on the left wing, and the defender fired a low shot into the bottom corner. Leverkusen responded well to going behind and created several chances to level the scores. However, they were unable to find a way past Gregor Kobel in the Dortmund goal.
The second half was a more even affair, with both teams creating chances. Dortmund came close to doubling their lead on several occasions, but they were denied by some excellent saves from Lukas Hradecky in the Leverkusen goal. At the other end, Leverkusen continued to press for an equalizer, and they were finally rewarded in the 79th minute when Boniface headed home from a corner.
The draw leaves Leverkusen top of the Bundesliga on 26 points, two points ahead of Dortmund. Bayern Munich is now just one point behind Dortmund in third place, having won their game against Werder Bremen earlier on Saturday.
Niclas Füllkrug and Malen remain Dortmund's top scorers in the league with 11 goals apiece.
