Bellingham Alternative Response Team

WEB Alternative Response Team Works with Houseless Community

Bellingham's Innovative Approach to Mental Health and Homelessness

Program Overview

The WEB Alternative Response Team (WEB) is a groundbreaking program launched in January 2023 in Bellingham, Washington. It dispatches two behavioral health specialists to respond to 911 calls related to mental health issues and homelessness. WEB aims to provide immediate mental health support and connect individuals to appropriate resources.

Collaboration and Partnerships

WEB collaborates closely with Whatcom County Health Department and the Bellingham Police Department (BPD). The team coordinates with a triage specialist at the county's emergency dispatch center (WhatComm911) to identify calls suitable for their intervention.

Program Expansion and Grant Funding

Due to its success, WEB received an alternative response team grant for 2023. The grant will enable the program to expand its services and continue providing support to the houseless community.

Working Together for a Healthier Community

The Alternative Response Team is an innovative model that integrates mental health resources into the emergency response system. By working collaboratively, WEB and its partners strive to improve mental health outcomes and reduce the burden on law enforcement. This approach ultimately fosters a healthier and more compassionate community for all.
